Migration guide · 3-8 weeks · zero downtime

How to migrate from Jamf to HaloFortress

A 6-step plan for moving from Jamf to HaloFortress without an all-or-nothing cutover. Co-existence agents run both stacks side-by-side. Most fleets complete migration in 3-8 weeks.

The short answer

Install the HaloFortress agent alongside your Jamf agent. Run in observe-only mode for 7-14 days while you translate policies. Cut over conditional access for a pilot ring, then expand by posture rings until Jamf can be retired. The first policy is live within 11 minutes of tenant provisioning.

The plan

Step-by-step: Jamf → HaloFortress

  1. 1

    Inventory current Jamf scope

Export your smart groups, configuration profiles, policies, and patch policies. HaloFortress ingests the export and shows what maps cleanly.

  2. 2

    Co-install both agents

Push the HaloFortress macOS agent via Jamf. Both run cleanly side-by-side; HaloFortress reports posture without enforcing.

  3. 3

    Translate profiles

About 90% of Jamf configuration profiles translate to HaloFortress posture controls. The translator flags ones that need a human eye.

  4. 4

    Bind ZTNA to HaloFortress

Move conditional access from your Jamf+Okta integration to HaloFortress Trust. Run both for a week to verify.

  5. 5

Cut over enrollment for new hires

Switch your DEP/ABM token to HaloFortress so all new devices land on the new platform. Existing Jamf-managed devices migrate in rings.

  6. 6

    Retire Jamf

After all rings are stable, remove the Jamf framework via HaloFortress. Most teams drop the Jamf line item at quarter-end.

FAQ

Migrating from Jamf — questions

Is HaloFortress a Jamf alternative?

Yes, especially for cross-platform fleets that want zero trust built in. Jamf is excellent on Apple alone but has no native Windows, Linux, or ZTNA story; most Jamf customers stack Okta plus a ZTNA vendor on top. HaloFortress ships all of this in one platform.

Will I lose Mac configuration depth by leaving Jamf?

No. HaloFortress supports the full set of Apple configuration profiles, MDM commands, and DDM declarations. About 90% of Jamf configuration profiles translate cleanly. The remaining edge cases get a side-by-side review.

How long does a Jamf migration take?

Mid-market fleets typically migrate in 4-8 weeks of calendar time. The first ring of users moves in about a week. Both agents co-exist throughout, so there is no all-or-nothing cutover risk.

Does HaloFortress support DEP, ABM, and Apple Business Manager?

Yes. HaloFortress is a fully Apple-supervised MDM with DEP/ABM/ASM enrollment, declarative device management, FileVault escrow, and managed Apple ID support.
